Reno 1868 FC (7-3-7) won 1-0 on Saturday in a close match against the Portland Timbers 2 (8-7-2). The win extends Reno’s unbeaten streak to 13 matches and is the club’s second win in a row.
The first half was messy for both sides and saw many chances fall through. The score was at the end of the half was 0-0.
The second half continued much like the first until Danny Musovski scored his fifth goal of the season for Reno in the 81′. The goal tied Musovski with Brian Brown for most goals by a Reno 1868 FC player this season.
The assist came via the boot of Antoine Hoppenot and was his seventh assist of the season. Hoppenot is just one assist shy of USL assist leader Emmanuel Ledesma of FC Cincinnati.
The Portland Timbers 2 had a great opportunity to equalize in the 90′, but JT Marcinkowski stayed hot and stopped the shot.
The win puts Reno into 5th place in the USL Western Conference with 28 points. For the Portland Timbers 2, this loss drops the club to 7th place in the Western Conference with 26 points.
Reno 1868 has a quick turnaround this week and is set to face the top ranked team in the USL. Real Monarchs SLC is currently leading the league with 37 points with an overall record of 12-3-1. The match takes place at Greater Nevada Field on Tuesday, July 3 at 7:30pm.
