Reno 1868 FC won on the road Saturday, defeating Sacramento Republic FC, 3-2. The win came after a big 2-0 Sacramento lead at the end of the first half.
Sacramento Republic FC pushed the pace in the first half with both of its goals coming within the first 12 minutes.
Jure Matjasic scored in the 2nd minute off of a slick pass from Cameron Iwasa.
Iwasa followed up that assist with a goal of his own in the 12th minute. Iwasa was assisted by Justin Schmidt, who created the scoring chance with a brilliant lob pass.
The second half was all Reno. Paul Marie started off Reno’s scoring onslaught in the 57th minute with a well-timed shot to the right side of the net.
Brian Brown would score just two minutes later, in the 59th minute, after receiving a nice pass from Mohamed Thiaw.
Thiaw then showed that patience is a virtue by scoring a goal of his own in the 62nd minute. The assist would come from Paul Marie.
The big win keeps Reno 1868 FC undefeated through its last 6 games and pushes the club to 10th place in the USL Western Conference.
For Sacramento Republic FC, this is only its second loss of the season. The club still sits comfortably in 3rd place in the Western Conference.
Reno 1868 FC’s next match will be at Greater Nevada Field on Wednesday May 16, as the club hosts the Portland Timbers U-23 in the second round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. Match time is set for 7 p.m..
